Don started his career in Aerospace Manufacturing at Rockwell Collins as a Team Lead while attending full-time classes and serving in the local Marine Corps Reserve Unit. His vested interest in aerospace began at Cincinnati State University where I took courses in the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program. He continued his education at Thomas More College where he earned a Bachelor’s in Business with a concentration in Finance. He was able to maintain his growing responsibility at Indy Honeycomb and graduate Magna cum Laude. He currently serves as Indy Honeycomb’s President.  He maintains oversight of operations and works alongside the CEO, Steve Barnett, to develop and execute the vision and mission of the company.

Don is a combat veteran and currently serves in the Kentucky National Guard as assistant S2 with the 63rd Theater Aviation Brigade. He has worked his way through the ranks at Indy and has a genuine interest in the success of employees and all of those who hold a stake in the company’s success. Don is committed to the continuous improvement of Indy and ongoing development of positive business partnerships.

Q & A with Don Prysi

Congratulations on Becoming President! What was you initial reaction?

Don Prysi: I was humbled by this decision and thanked everyone for the trust they have put in me.  Having worked my way through the ranks at Indy,  I have a genuine interest in the success of employees and all of those who hold a stake in the company’s success. I am committed to the continuous improvement of Indy and ongoing development of positive business partnerships.

What is the most rewarding or satisfying experience since you joined the company other then becoming President of the company?.

Don Prysi: I don’t know that I can pick just one but I can say that my most rewarding experiences include Indy being a positive influence in people’s lives. We have successfully built an environment that is centered on character. From team members to business partnerships… we strive for win/win relationships. This place really is different than most, we genuinely care about each other and want the best for those who we interact with. We have a business to run and success needs to be our priority, but how we do it matters. Seeing that all come through in actions makes me proud of our team.

Was there a time when a customer asked you for something out of the ordinary?

Don Prysi: All the time. Our motto is “we make honeycomb easy to buy”. I remember specifically when a distressed customer called and asked for better than the standard 21-28 day lead time we were quoting at the time. How much better? How about 2-3 hours?! Our team eats that kind of challenge up and we had the parts ready to go just in time for pickup.

Before working at Indy, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Don Prysi: I was actually a Zamboni driver for a very short stint… pretty cool.

Are you married? Do you have kids?

Don Prysi: I am married to a beautiful, loving wife and have one three year old son. We enjoy time together with family here and in my home town of Chicago, spending time outdoors, playing and watching sports.

Do you have any hobbies?

Don Prysi: When I find the time I enjoy skiing, golfing, shooting and spending time outdoors.

Indy Honeycomb Selects JobBOSS as Our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software and Will Pass the Efficiency That It Brings On To Our Clients

What is Enterprise Resource Planning Software?

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is business management software that allows an organization to use a system of integrated applications to manage the business. ERP software integrates all facets of an operation, including product planning, development, manufacturing processes, sales and marketing. The basic goal is to provide one central repository for all information that is shared by all the various ERP facets in order to smooth the flow of data across the organization.

“Indy Honeycomb has thoroughly evaluated ERP/MRP options and has identified JobBOSS as the best solution for meeting customer needs.  The entire staff is committed to a successful implementation of this shop management software by 2014,” said Don Prysi, VP/Managing Director of Indy Honeycomb.

The following 10 steps outlines what the ERP  implementation team will be doing to launch the JobBOSS ERP by 2014… 

  1. Develop a plan with JobBOSS that includes a mutually acceptable timeline for each step in the transition, including process review, training, system setup, data conversions and establishing a go-live date.
  2. Select the implementation team and empower team leaders who can help plan the training and implementation for each specific area of operation, and determine how, when and by whom these activities will be carried out.
  3. Be open to change to  make changes to your established routines in order to best utilize the new ERP software.
  4. Getting end user buy-in by showing employees’ how the new manufacturing software will help them do their jobs more efficiently.
  5. Ensure your staff is prepared to use the new system and provide additional training on computer skills where necessary.
  6. Ensure your hardware meets specifications so a lack of preparedness doesn’t delay implementation and affect staff buy-in of the new system.
  7. Identify “super-users” and recruit them to help their co-workers learn and adjust to the new system.
  8. Develop trainings in order for the staff  to feel comfortable with the system.
  9. Be patient knowing that problems will arise, despite careful planning, and be prepared to address them.
  10. Listen to the frontline users for ways to improve internal business processes.

Spotlight On Stephanie Wilmhoff! Indy Honeycomb’s Office Administrator

Stephanie Wilmhoff, Office Administrator – Indy Honeycomb

Stephanie started working for Indy Honeycomb in October of 2012 as the Office Administrator and her chief duties are managing accounts payable and receivable, processing and receiving payroll, administering employee benefits, maintaining benefits resources, and managing the Drug Abatement Program.  

“This is such a unique environment! We are co-workers but it feels like a family and I really love being a part of a team that strives for the best in everything they do,” Stephanie said. “I come from a non-accounting background, so the first time I balanced our operating account perfectly, it felt like hitting a home run!”

Stephanie shared an interesting job that she had before she was with Indy Honeycomb. She revealed that right after she graduated from the University of Kentucky, she worked with a non-profit missionary organization in Argentina for a year. She lived and worked in another culture and that experience forced both humility and perseverance upon her. She fell in love with the Argentine culture and people and had a year full of adventures that she will never forget.

Stephanie loves the outdoors and the adventure it brings! She especially likes hiking, biking, and kayaking. She takes off for the Red River Gorge in Kentucky any chance she gets.

Indy Honeycomb Is Pursuing NADCAP Accreditation

Indy Honeycomb’s proactive mindset is recently demonstrated by our decision to pursue the NADCAP accreditation. We will be focusing on our Spark Erosion Grinding (SEG) process for small cell applications, primarily engine seal honeycomb. By applying recognized Aerospace Industry standards Indy Honeycomb will further enhance our ability to pursue various aircraft market applications.


Nadcap is an industry-managed approach to conformity assessment that brings together technical experts from both Industry and Government to establish requirements for accreditation, accredit Suppliers and define operational program requirements. This results in a standardized approach to quality assurance and a reduction in redundant auditing throughout the aerospace industry because Prime contractors, Suppliers and Government representatives have joined forces to develop a program that:

  • Establishes stringent industry consensus standards that satisfy the requirements of all participants
  • Replaces routine auditing of suppliers with one approved through a consensus decision-making process of members from the user community
  • Conducts more in-depth, technically superior special process audits
  • Improves supplier quality throughout industry through stringent requirements
  • Reduces costs through improved standardization
  • Utilizes technically expert auditors to assure process familiarity
  • Provides more frequent audits for Primes, fewer audits for Suppliers

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear announces that Indy Honeycomb is expanding its Northern Kentucky facility

With an investment of $915,000, Indy Honeycomb is expanding its facility and is adding 13 new, full-time jobs.

“Indy Honeycomb’s success can be traced to their early business vision – to make a complex product simple and easy to buy. That concept clearly works,” said Gov. Beshear. “Now, the Commonwealth is partnering with Indy Honeycomb to see the company continue to grow and succeed, and the addition of 13 jobs and a $915,000 investment are proof of that success.”

To encourage the investment and job growth in Northern Kentucky, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $200,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program.

“Incentives like this allow our business to move more decisively and proactively,” said Indy Honeycomb President Steve Barnett. “We now have the ability to provide additional space, equipment and technology to our committed team of employees, which allows us to better serve current customers and new clients alike. Having the ability to move on this initiative now, as opposed to waiting, helps us remain on the leading edge of our niche market.”
